Don’t let Satan’s lies control the narrative: he’s influencing what the media writes, the government promotes, and people believe.
One attribute of lying was aptly described by St Augustine as “lies told for the pleasure of lying.” I think many people do this version of lying with perverted altruistic intentions. They lie thinking they are benefiting others, this way lies can create feelings of trust or acceptance. They believe the lie is to protect us from thinking for ourselves.
Think about how the liberal media continues to tell us that Trump is still spreading election result lies. That “there were no election improprieties;” that the election was not stolen and ballot boxes were not stuffed and the media was not complicit in election interference, by creating false and negative narratives about Trump. Ya, right! Even today there was a big uproar about journalist Kristen Welker describing Trumps involvement in the January 6th event as “alleged.” Since he has not been convicted and nobody knows his heart, it would be a lie to say he intentionally created an insurrection. But the lies persist, and they think otherwise.
There are also lies told to harm one to help another. These are so common now that they’re almost comical. But all of Satans comedy is not funny, it is tragic. Think of how the left brought fourth witnesses to lie about Kavanagh, Thomas and Bork. The truth was not the goal here, the desired outcome was all that mattered.
I’ve spoken here in political terms and some will only see it this way. But my interest is really Satan’s angle on lying. Political wars, family feuds, relationships, licentious behaviors, greed and power, all concern deception. This is why God includes “thou shalt not bear false witness” in the ten commandments. He knows Satan is the father of lies and our lies will destroy us.
And if you’re not brain dead, you know in the end all liers will be judged by God. Every one of their lies will be exposed. Not only the lies they have told but the lies they have believed. Are you one who tells lies? Do you believe and tell others it is ok for a man to “abandon the natural function of the woman and burn in their desire for another man?” Do you live comfortably in this jungle of lies? Is culture more important to you the scriptures? Can you be trusted to tell your grandchildren they are created no other than male or female? Can you tell your spouse truthfully, “I have been faithful?”
God expects those who follow Him to be people of truth. So what we believe matters. I’m not saying I’m perfect. I’m saying, Jesus offers hope to those looking for redemption from the lies Satan has told you and you believe. If you have or had sexual issues, believe everything you hear in the news, told your kids, “it’s ok to be gay, just be true to yourself,” or even if you have been unfaithful by lying in any number of ways, Jesus can and will forgive (forever) your lying self. Stop being “believable” and start being truthful. We are not called to be imperfectly truthful. We are called to be perfectly truthful and restored. JESUS will restore you, change you, and bring you joy. “You will know the truth and it will set you free.” But you need to repent and trust him to experience this fully. Believe, truthfully, that Jesus died for your sins and was raised to eternal life where he waits for all who believe to join him. For in Jesus there is no deception, there are no lies. Today is the day to come clean. Let God change you into the man or woman he wants you to be.
Because it’s Sunday,
Bob
