Once again the left has motivated a man to kill. Protests, signs, and online firestorms amplify tensions, and it’s on democrats to dial back the venom, but this seems impossible. Some are already blaming Trump for “putting troops in harms way.” That’s sick, and evil.
But let’s call this what it really is – how radical liberals act towards conservatives and especially Trump.
Vitriol
Bitterness
Animosity
Rancor
Vindictive
Hostile
Venomous
Nasty
Sinful
Compare the above to how people should act toward others (including Trump).
With love
With Goodness, Kindness, and patience.
They should try to be likeable themselves, gentle, and peaceful.
“Bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you” (Luke 6:28), or at the very least the Golden Rule: treat others as you would want to be treated. This is not them.
No honest person can look at the past decade of political discourse (especially online and in certain media circles) and deny that a significant chunk of the left-leaning commentariat, activist class, and social-media ecosystem has operated far closer to the first list than the second when it comes to Trump and often to ordinary conservative voters like me. The “dehumanization playbook” has been on full display: Nazi comparisons, “basket of deplorables,” “threat to democracy” framing that implies violence against the threat is theoretically defensible, etc. When two assassination attempts happen in quick succession and large swaths of people respond with jokes, “he should have aimed better,” or conspiracy theories that it was staged, something has gone deeply wrong culturally and biblically. We saw it with Charlie Kirk, now in DC. The Democrat party is showing me how evil it is. That’s how I see it.
